CITIES AND TOWNS

 

Odessa

   
the third largest city in the beautiful country of Ukraine that lies along the Black Sea, which is 480 kilometers away from the South of Kiev.  Odessa has a total population of over 1 million people according to 2001 Ukrainian Census. The city is a good weekend trip destination because it hosts numerous cultural events and lively body art festival.  During summer, many backpackers and beach lover flee in the city to have fun and relax under the sizzling heat of the sun.
 

Donetsk

   
in 1689, Welsh businessman J.J. Hughes founded the place.  Donetsk nestles in the grassland setting of Ukraine, surrounded by scattered forest, hills, brooks, and lagoon.  In addition, the place is the fifth largest city in Ukraine that has a total population of over 1,100,000 inhabitants and with a total land area of 358 km² (138.2 sq mi).  The city is also the home of the famous personalities of the country for example, Anatoly Timofeevich Fomenko— Russian Mathematician and lecturer at the Moscow University.
 

Feodosia

   
during 6th century B.C. Greek colonists from Miletos, an ancient city on the western coast of Anatolia, found the city under the name of Theodosia.  The name of the place is derived from the Greek language “Given by God”.  Feodosia houses the “Golden Beach”, fascinating tourist attractions, mineral springs and mud baths.  It is also the home of several sanatoria (a resort for improvement or maintenance of health) and rest homes.
 

Crimea

   
with a total land area of 26, 100 km or 10, 038 sq mi, Crimea features a long list of fantastic sightseeing places, which includes Ai Petri Mountain and Livadia Palace or Swallow’s Nest.  This autonomous republic of Ukraine on the northern coast of the Black Sea is rich with natural wonders.  With so many different natural landscapes, Crimea is referred to as the “Micro continent”.
 

Zhovkva

   
an enjoyable trip from Lviv is not complete without dropping by at Zhovkva.  The place is known for its Renaissance buildings and lovely landscapes.  Zhovkva boasts with many scenic sights dating from 17th- 18th century.  Feel free to visit the Greek-Catholic monastery situated in beautiful woodlands.   Dropping by at this splendid retreat is a perfect break after strenuous days in the city.
